ADVISORY BOARD

Paul Uppal

Born in Smethwick, Paul attended an FE college and went on to study at Warwick University.

He ran his own business in construction for over twenty years and has seen firsthand the challenges SMEs face in terms of procurement and payment. In 2010 he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South West as the first Sikh Conservative Member of Parliament. He then served as Private Parliamentary Secretary to David Willetts and on the Prime Minister’s policy board for David Cameron 2013 – 2015. He returned back to running his own business but was drawn back to public life as the UK’s first Small Business Commissioner 2017 – 2019. As the Small Business Commissioner Paul travelled the country speaking to over 2,500 entrepreneurs, raising over £ 6.5 million for small businesses in terms of invoices that were outstanding and directly helping over 300 SMEs. Paul is keen to channel this experience through the board and generate business growth for Britain’s 6 Million Small Businesses.

Paul is also volunteering as a Business Adviser for Young Enterprise to work as a mentor for young people who wish to start their own business.
